Beloved comedy hero Seth Rogan has revealed he’s set to produce a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, scheduled to release in 2023.
Rogan might be best known for his stunts in front of the camera, starting in flicks like 2008’s Pineapple Express, before moving into directing and other behind-the-scenes development roles in 2010. Now the Hollywood star is set to produce a brand new TMNT movie, which is tentatively hoped to…y’know…not suck.
Taking to Twitter to announce the news, Rogan shared an image of a piece of paper covered in scrawled writing (no offense), doodles and snippets of info. Rogan used a “TMNT” hashtag, before following up with a second tweet confirming the movie’s release date.
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles… Aug 11 2023 (Leo takes notes like I used to),” quipped the star.
As you can make out in the image above, it looks as though the note is written by Leonardo (the best turtle, of course). Various references can be spotted, including the names of the other hard-shelled heroes, as well as “Types of Mutations” including “Deletion,” “Duplication,” and “Translocation.”
Last year, The Wrap reported that the new take on the turtles will be a CG animated movie, with a stellar line-up of big names attached. Rogen himself will be producing, alongside Evan Goldberg and James Weaver. The animated picture will reportedly be directed by Jeff Rowe, writer of shows such as Disney’s Gravity Falls and Netflix’s Disenchantment – or at least that was the plan last year!
A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie could be a win for Seth Rogan, and could potentially help further the release of the next TMNT video game. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a new cartoon caper from Dotemu, the studio behind Streets of Rage 4 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. Sadly, it doesn’t yet have a release date.
