Let's dig in.

Shovel Knight Dev Hosting A Nintendo Direct-Style Presentation Next Month

Yacht Club Games, developer of indie platformer Shovel Knight, is hosting a Nintendo Direct-like presentation next week with some “huge” announcements.

Announced on Twitter, Yacht Club Games Presents will showcase new content for a selection of games. “We have a bunch of cool announcements including an exciting megaton announcement!” wrote Yacht Club Games in the announcement. The presentation will air at 10pm February 1, but the announcement didn’t specify how long it will be. And the presentation will air on G4’s Twitch channel, during their Xplay show.

The Shovel Knight developer also shared a blog post going into slightly more detail about the presentation. “Our very own Sean Velasco, Alec Faulkner, Nick Wozniak, Sandy Gordon, and Celia Schilling will pull back the development curtain to share a boatload of new updates, never-before-seen gameplay sneak peeks, DLC, and a groundbreaking announcement!” the blog post says.

Presumably the big announcement is their next main title reveal. Since the release of Shovel Knight in 2014, Yacht Club Games haven’t released a new standalone title. The developer released free expansions all the way up to 2019. Last year they released Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, a spinoff that was co-developed by Vine. And Shovel Knight Dig, another spinoff, is set to release sometime this year. We can probably also expect a release date for Dig at the event.

The showcase will be followed by a Q&A with the devs, hosted by Xplay’s Jirard Khalil. Also joining them will be Game Grump’s Arin Hanson, and YouTuber Alpharad.
