Simpsons Producer Says He’d Love To See Hit & Run Remastered

The Simpsons Hit & Run is a beloved classic that many fans want to see brought back. However, that also apparently extends to the sitcom’s writer and producer, Matt Selman. The question is, could The Simpsons Hit & Run Remastered actually happen?

During a recent conversation with IGN, Selman expressed his fondness for the Simpsons sandbox caper while lamenting the complications with bringing it back [via Gamespot]:

“I would love to see a remastered version of [Simpsons Hit & Run], I would. It’s a complicated corporate octopus to try to make that happen.”

Selman also shared some memories of the game’s development, which includes arguments with the developers over Hit & Run’s GTA inspired mechanics:

“We were all playing Grand Theft Auto at the time and publisher… they just wanted another driving game. And we were like, everyone’s playing whatever version of Grand Theft Auto, people need to get out of the cars. That was a huge creative battle over whether it was just a ‘driving around doing missions’ game or a ‘getting out of the car and doing missions’ game. But I do think the battle was worth fighting.”

A coveted Cartoon classic

Last month, a Twitter poll revealed that fans would rather see The Simpsons: Hit & Run come back than the likes of GTA: San Andreas or Metal Gear Solid. Therefore, it’s needless to say that fans want some sort of remaster or remake of the game. However, as Selman states above, the process behind bringing back the original game is complicated, especially since Vivendi games is now part of Activision Blizzard.

Who knows, perhaps one day we’ll be able to play a modernised version of Hit & Run. Until then, we’ll have to rely on our trusty old sixth-generation consoles for our Springfield sandbox fix.
