Smash Bros. Fans Think Luigi’s ‘Death’ May Hint At The Hidden Game Mode

During Nintendo’s (very exciting) Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct, fans were pretty shocked to see everyone’s favourite (lol) Mario brother lying dead on the floor.

Of course it all made a bit more sense when the Castlevania theme was revealed for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate but some fans believe that deceased Luigi may be a symbol for something more…

At the end of the Direct, Smash Bros. top dog Masahiro Sakurai said there was one last surprise for the game, but that we wouldn’t be seeing it quite yet. Instead, we got a pixelated view of the upcoming surprise on the game’s menu.

The internet has never been known to be put off by pixels though, and it looks like a keen-eyed Twitter user has unveiled a secret message behind the blocks.

@Noctulescent is claiming that the “pixelated green thing in #SmashBrosDirect says ‘Spirits.’”

The idea was mocked up by a Reddit user named Nintendrew, and the result definitely looks like it could be what Sakurai was trying to hide…

The image of Luigi’s body and his ghost, coupled with some sort of ‘Spirit’-related gameplay has led fans to speculate that the hidden game mode could be something to do with bringing spirits back or life or reuniting them with their bodies.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the biggest game in Smash’s history, boasting hundreds of stages, playable characters and music tracks, so why not throw in a zany extra mode too?

It might be a bit of a stretch, but the pieces for this puzzle are all laid out…

Do you think Luigi’s body is a clue to the hidden game mode, or is it all a bit of a reach?

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is due to release 7th December, 2018 on the Nintendo Switch.
