Some Xbox Users Can Now Stream Games Like Horizon Zero Dawn To Console

Some Xbox Series X|S owners can apparently stream PC games to their consoles, thanks to the newest version of Microsoft Edge. This means that console exclusives released on PC, like Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn, are now playable from your Xbox.

The browser update was given to Xbox testers within the Alpha Skip-Ahead group. Thanks to its Chromium compatibility, the browser can run web apps like Google Stadia, Discord and even GeForce Now [via VGC].

Essentially, this means that players can use the browser to play games from the likes of Steam and the Epic Games Store. Notably, this also means that Sony exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding are now technically playable on the Xbox.

The Xbox version of Microsoft Edge currently lacks mouse support, which of course affects a lot of PC games. However, games that feature controller support appear to be working just fine.

As explained by the YouTuber Joe Chip, the ability to play PC games on the Xbox is thanks to Edge’s compatibility with GeForce Now. By navigating to a specific URL, players can access the appropriate web app for GeForce Now streaming.

NVIDIA’s answer to cloud gaming is free and allows players to stream their existing PC libraries. The service is said to provide the same performance as an RTX 2080, running at 1080p and 60fps.

The free version of GeForce Now only allows for one hour of playtime, while its monthly $4.99 subscription allows players six hours of play. Providing that Microsoft doesn’t lock down the browser’s abilities in the future, consoles like the Xbox Series X|S could become a great way to stream PC games to your TV.

Microsoft Edge for Xbox’s Stadia compatibility was also previously discovered, which allows players to use the Google service in a similar fashion [via VGC].

Edge’s Chromium compatibility opens up a lot of doors for the console, especially when it comes to cloud streaming. Phil Spencer has also said that the company is working to bring Xbox Game Pass streaming to the Xbox, but it’s “further down the list” in terms of priorities.
