Steam’s levelling system isn’t one of its greatest features, in fact, a lot of people don’t even know of its existence. But, it definitely does exist and it’s just reached a new level.
The way it works is by collecting all the cards in a set and then crafting the associated badge. Doing so will increase your level, which unlocks a range of perks for your account.

The higher the level you are, the higher the drop rate of card packs. You’ll also be able to have more friends on your friends list, and you’ll be able to unlock various customisation options. It’s not essential, but it’s a nice way to get some extras on your profile.
A new Steam Level record has just been broken, as level 4000 has finally been reached by one player.
Posting on the r/steam subreddit, a user by the name of Lite_OnE shared an image of the Steam user’s account, along with a caption confirming the success.

Over on Twitter it’s been speculated that the Steam user, known as St4ck, must have spent a minimum of $300,000 to achieve the feat. $300,000! Enough to buy a house or two…
First Steam user to reach 4000 Steam Level.
The amount of money he spent on the account is mind blowing, thousands of $ between levels, inventory and games. A minimal calculation amount would be $300,000https://t.co/FGNMmfRlKY pic.twitter.com/GR3hrMoXIt

According to St4ck’s Steam profile, there are close to 5000 games on the account, with close to 6500 badges registered too. That’s some hardcore gaming right there.

Omg…. That’s a lot pic.twitter.com/V4GsQrQIVj
