The plot for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie has seemingly leaked, and if correct, retro gamers should be impressed with what’s to come!

Still here? Great! So let’s see what’s reportedly happening in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. As spotted by VG247, a Twitter leaker by the name of Ninja_Risu recently took to the platform to share their findings. As always with leaks and rumours, take this one with a pinch of salt until confirmed, though this one is hard to dispute.
The leak comes from the movie’s copyright filing, and is pretty clear in terms of what we can expect.
“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home when they go on vacation,” says the synopsis.
“But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his old sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”
Longstanding Sonic fans should recognise an element of 1994’s Sonic 3 here, and unless the synopsis changes (which would be unlikely at this point), it looks like that’s the game that has inspired the movie sequel.
The movie is also likely to welcome Knuckles to the big screen, as a Knuckles prop was spotted on the set of the upcoming flick.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is set to race its way into cinemas on the 8th of April 2022.
