Xbox and PlayStation sitting in a tree…

Sony blocked Xbox Game Pass from appearing on PlayStation consoles

Breaking news, Sony doesn’t want Xbox Game Pass to come to PlayStation! What a shocking revelation. Who saw that coming?

As Microsoft continues to persuade market regulators that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard is a good thing for the industry, we’ve had some very interesting back and forth.

Xbox Game Pass on PlayStation would be great

Furthermore, all it ever seems to be is Microsoft and Sony firing shots at each other. Especially when it comes to Call of Duty and Xbox Game Pass. However, Microsoft has now seemingly expressed its disdain at Sony not wanting Xbox Game Pass on PlayStation.

As shared by Senior Editor at The Verge, Tom Warren revealed some very interesting choice of words from Microsoft for Sony having the audacity of not wanting Xbox Game Pass.

Microsoft says Sony has “chosen to block Game Pass from PlayStation” and that it has “elected to protect its revenues from sales of newly released games, rather than offer gamers the choice of accessing them via its subscription, PlayStation Plus.” All a response to UK’s CMA.

Does Xbox want to bring Game Pass to Switch?

Back in 2020, Xbox chief Phil Spencer stated that Microsoft would be open to bringing Game Pass to Nintendo Switch as well as PlayStation.

However, while Xbox Game Pass would be more likely on Nintendo Switch (though I wouldn’t hold my breath), PlayStation feels like an understandable no-go. After all, Sony has recently revived its PS Plus to be an alternative to Xbox Game Pass.

Sure, it would be great to see Xbox Game Pass on PlayStation, as it would on PS Plus on Xbox. But I think the likelihood of that ever happening is practically non-existent.

Having Game Pass invade PlayStation would be kind of like inviting your partner’s hot-ex over for dinner while you just sit there chewing on a $2 steak as you gradually feel as obsolete as a GameStop NFT.
