Submitted on the 21st of July 2021, the trademark for the PlayStation Home brand has been renewed up until 2028. While the trademark application page is space when it comes to retails, the social game is still labelled under “goods and services” and categorised as “computer game software”. The post over on Gaming Leaks and Rumours also points out that this is the second time the trademark has been renewed.

What’s that? You have no idea what PlayStation Home is? Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. PlayStation Home was essentially a virtual hangout space on the PS3 that featured custom 3D avatars and customisable apartments. Launched back in 2008, the virtual world was a more substantial alternative to the likes of Xbox’s Avatar Editor or Nintendo’s Mii Maker.

Of course, it’s worth mentioning that this trademark renewal doesn’t automatically mean the social space is making a return. In fact, trademark renewals are a standard business practice, regardless of whether a company intends to use the property. However, recent rumours have suggested that PlayStation Home could come to the PS5 as part of a brand new VR experience [via Comicbook].

Here’s hoping that PlayStation Home is set to return. While the service isn’t likely to appeal to everyone, perhaps Sony can use the service to bring something new to the social gaming experience.
