Christmas was a boom for PlayStation 5 sales

During Sony’s Q3, 7.1 million PlayStation 5 consoles were sold worldwide during the three-month period ending 31st December 2022. That number is up by a whopping 83% year-on-year. Furthermore, it now means that the PS5 has shipped around 32 million consoles worldwide.

What’s more, it seems that the infamous PS5 stock shortages are coming to an end, which hopefully means that desperate buyers will feel less inclined to buy from greedy resellers.

Is it finally over now?

Sony has announced that it will increase its annual PlayStation 5 target to 19 million units. This will surely come as good news for those that are still hoping to snag the new-gen console.

This is an increase of one million more than what was previously expected by the company. Moreover, it now means that Sony hopes to shift an additional 6.2 million PS5 consoles by 31st March 2023.

PlayStation Plus subscribers have increased

It seems that PlayStation Plus subscribers have also seen an increase in numbers too. Sony reports that PS Plus subscribers are now at 46.6 million, compared to last summer which sat at 45.5.

However, it’s still a few million away from the company’s peak PS Plus subscribers which is currently 48 million. Still, this is at least an improvement on the reported loss of subscribers from a few months back.

Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come and not only will the quality of games keep improving for the three PS Plus subscription tiers, but buyers will now be able to acquire PS5s at the regular RRP from retail.
