A new controller for the PlayStation 5 has been announced at Opening Night Live for Gamescom 2022: the DualSense Edge.
Fans have been wondering when Sony would release a new PS5 controller, and now we have an answer. The new PS5 DualSense Edge controller was officially unveiled at Gamescom during the opening show hosted by Geoff Keighley.
The controller was shown off in a brief video during the show. And later that day, Sony released a new post on the PlayStation website detailing the controller and everything it can do.
The post says “today, we are thrilled to unveil the DualSense Edge wireless controller for PlayStation 5, the first-ever high-performance, ultra-customisable controller developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Designed to give you an edge in gameplay by allowing you to create custom controls, the DualSense Edge wireless controller invites you to craft your own unique gaming experience tailored to your playstyle.“
DualSense Edge – What are the features?
It has “ultra-customisable controls” which allow users to remap the controls, adjust stick sensitivity and dead zones, and more. You can apparently reduce travel distance of the triggers to assist you in competitive games.
You can also save multiple control profiles and swap between them on the fly. So if you have different ideal controls for different games, you’ll be able to save them and change to them when you need to.
There’s a “dedicated Fn” button which allows you to “Easily adjust your setup while staying focused on the in-game action”. And you can swap out the stick caps and back buttons to give you more control if you prefer.
Replacement stick modules will be sold separately, but can be used to swap out individual sticks on the controller. And there are built-in DualSense wireless features to retain the experience of using the DualSense wireless controller while playing games that support it, such as haptic feedback and more.
