Sony Says The PlayStation 5 Will Not Be Launching In October

A recent job listing suggested we might be seeing the PlayStation 5, the next-generation console from Sony, dropping on store shelves as soon as October 2020, but it looks like that won’t be the case.

A job listing found on Rikunabi, discovered via Resetera, caused raised eyebrows across the globe as it said the PS5 was “scheduled to be released in October 2020.” As it stands, the PS5 has an official release window of Holiday 2020, and Sony has yet to give any more information than that.

The company has been quick to stomp out the suggestion of an October release, blaming the job listing on an error in translation.

Speaking to Famitsu, a representative for Sony issued the following statement: “It was due to a mistake in the recruitment site, not the content that was written by our company.”

It looks like the PS5’s release window is staying as Holiday 2020 for now though, and the good news is that the console is still on track for that period. Sony has confirmed the console is still aiming for a 2020 release, despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Announcing its financial results for the fiscal year 2019, Sony said the following:

“Regarding the launch of PlayStation 5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season.”

At the time of writing, we’re still yet to see what the PlayStation 5 will actually look like, though its controller is hinting that we might be getting a white console.
