Sony Wants To Create An R-Rated God of War Movie

Sony and Santa Monica Studio’s PlayStation 4 exclusive, God of War, has been winning awards left right and centre since it launched last year. Not only did it scoop Game Of The Year at The Game Awards 2018, but it also landed the same win at DICE.

The highly-praised story of Kratos and son Atreus is still impressing fans today – even a year after its release. Really, with such a huge following, it’s not too surprising to hear that Sony wants to bring the adventure to the silver screen.

Speaking to ComicBook, Pacific Rim: Uprising writer Steven DeKnight reveals he’s spoken with Sony about the possibility.

“I had some early conversations with the good people at Sony PlayStation about it,” DeKnight admits. “Not only that, but Sony were (surprisingly) the ones who were keen on making sure there was enough blood and gore to go around if Kratos were to make his film bow in a God of War movie.

“When I sat down with the Sony PlayStation people, one of the first things we both said is R-rated.”

I mean, we wouldn’t want it any other way…

Unfortunately, DeKnight also says there’s nothing solid in the works right now, adding: “I have no idea if that’s going to happen. I’m not in any kind of conversations right now, but hopefully somebody will make a movie out of that franchise. I think it’s a phenomenal franchise.”

If anyone could successfully make a GOW movie, it would be DeKnight. He worked as an executive producer on TV series Spartacus and Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, so the world of the Greek gods is nothing new.

The game left us on a pretty huge cliffhanger, and with no official word on a God of War 2, or even upcoming DLC, maybe a movie going into production would keep us satiated?

Would you like to see a God of War movie?
