Spider-Man Manages To Sell A Record-Breaking Amount Of Copies

Marvel and Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man launched earlier this month and it was pretty much guaranteed success from the get-go, but some of the numbers the game’s pulled since release have been seriously impressive.

It’s been revealed that within three days of the game’s launch on 7th September 2018 over 3.3 million copes of the PlayStation 4 exclusive title have been sold, making it one of the most successful launches for pretty much any game, ever.

Well done, Spidey!

USA Today did the maths on that figure and it’s estimated that “with a retail price of $59.99 for the game the 3.3 million copies translates to roughly $198 million.”

Putting that into perspective, the site adds that the game’s been “crushing the $117 million opening weekend box office of the latest solo Spider-Man film, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’”

What’s even more impressive is that the sales numbers from Sony don’t even include the limited edition Spidey-themed PlayStation 4 Pro console which came bundled with the game.

The game has officially become the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 title of all time, and the record-breaking doesn’t end there.

One million copies of Spider-Man were pre-ordered by fans before the official release, breaking records for Sony yet again. This one’s especially interesting, as within the community there’s been something of a backlash against pre-ordering titles…

Seriously, it seems there really isn’t a PS4 owner out there who has yet to play this game.

It’s been the best year ever for PS4 exclusives, with God of War absolutely dominating the sales charts.

Before Peter Parker came along, Kratos and pals held the record for highest number of sales for a PS4 exclusive, selling a mammoth 3.1 million units within three days of release.

Looks like the next PlayStation 4 exclusive is going to have some tough competition.

Have you played Spider-Man for PlayStation 4? Does it deserve the praise it’s getting?
