Square Enix has delayed Forspoken again, this time until next year

Forspoken, the highly-anticipated action RPG from Square Enix has been delayed again. This time it’s pushed back into 2023.

Back at The Game Awards in 2021, Forsaken finally received its first release date of May 24th, 2022. Then in March 2022, it was announced that the game would be pushed back a few more months. So it then had a release date of October 11th, 2022.

Unfortunately, Forspoken has suffered yet another delay. This time it has a release date of January 24th, 2023. The news was announced on Forspoken’s social media pages.

As a result of ongoing discussions with key partners, we have made the strategic decision to move the launch date of Forspoken to January 24, 2022,” confirmed a tweet. “All game elements are now complete, and development is in its final polishing phase.

We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience on this journey. Your excitement for the game inspires us every day and we cannot wait to share more about Forspoken with you later this Summer!

Interestingly, the statement announcing the delay says this was a “strategic decision”, which could imply that the delay has more to do with the time of the year.

Between October and November, this period is commonly known as “Broketober” due to the number of games launched during this window, making it difficult for even the best of games to stand out.

Did Forspoken fear Broketober?

Furthermore, traditionally between the months of January and March, it’s often a quieter period of time in terms of video game releases. Sure, as mentioned in the statement, Forspoken is having more “polish”, but perhaps Square Enix feared the competition was too fierce in October?

Hopefully, this will be the final delay for Forspoken. That being said, as with any video game release, we want it to be the best that it can be. So if any game needs to be delayed, then so be it.

In recent Forspoken news, developers Luminous Productions claimed that the PS5 loading times of the game are faster than a PC!
