This ‘Squirrel With A Gun’ Game Will Put The Fear Of God In You

An indie developer’s tweets showing an Unreal Engine project featuring a squirrel with a gun have gone viral, for obvious reasons.

Let me tell you a story about squirrels. One day, I went for a walk with my partner, and we spotted a few squirrels hanging around some bins and a bird feeder. We only noticed around three or so of them, but the number kept growing. Four squirrels, five squirrels, six. We couldn’t believe it.

The problem was that it kept going, all the way to the terrifying number of 13 squirrels. Have you ever seen so many squirrels in one place at one time? I certainly haven’t, and as a result I felt a fear that I’d never experienced before.

I knew, if they wanted to, they could kill me. Up until now, I thought that I’d never need to worry about that again. Until I saw Dan DeEntremont’s tweets showing an Unreal Engine project of a squirrel with a gun.

On May 15, DeEntremont put out a tweet showing a realistic squirrel holding and using a gun. Of course, as it deserves to, the tweet went viral, because the squirrel is very tiny, and it can barely hold onto the gun with its tiny hands.

An earlier tweet from DeEntremont shows an incredible takedown animation that he specifically notes is inspired by Yakuza. It’s this tweet in particular that re-elicited that fear I now have of squirrels. But hot dog, it’s such a good animation that I think I can get over it.

DeEntremont has specified whether this project is just for fun or if there’s a full game planned. Whatever it ends up being, that squirrel with a gun still probably has too much power any which way.

Speaking of Unreal Engine, fans are doing some pretty great stuff with the latest version, Unreal Engine 5. A modder recently remastered Need for Speed 3, and it looks absolutely incredible.
