It’s been a hot minute since the first time SSX Tricky hit store shelves, but even nearly 20 years later, it’s still a game adored by millions. The demand for a revisit to Tricky is definitely there, and now the game’s producer has opened up about the chances of a remaster.
In an interview with LADBible, the game’s producer, Steven Rechtschaffner admitted that it could happen – but it’s sadly not up to him.
“Yeah, I think it could work,” he told the website. “Xbox did a good job at re-releasing SSX 3 for Xbox One and it’s beautiful actually. It’s in the hands of SSX because they own the intellectual property. I have contemplated what it would mean, whether to remaster or even reboot the series.”
He went on to add: “You’re beholden to the expectations that people had from a long time ago. I easily think they could remaster [SSX] Tricky but there would be a tonne of work to be able to have live head-to-head competition and gameplay – just because the game wasn’t architected that way.
“We actually did architect SSX 3 that way. We fully intended to make it playable online so that would be more possible.”
This generation of console gaming has definitely lacked in the snowboarding department, and now seems like a better time than any to relaunch one of the best franchises of all time.
We’re seeing more and more reboots, remasters and remakes hit the shelves, and players can’t get enough of the nostalgia (along with the 2020 graphics, of course). Last year we saw the Resident Evil 2 Remake nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019, and the hype train is still rolling with the upcoming launch of RE3 Remake.
