Star Wars Episode I: Racer Coming To PS4 And Switch

1999 saw the release of a lot of great games that are still fondly remembered to this day, and one of those great games was Star Wars Episode I: Racer. The ever-iconic title was based on The Phantom Menace’s podracing sequence, and saw players race across a galaxy far, far away in what was the highlight of many gamers’ childhoods.

For those looking to rekindle some joy in their lives, it’s good news, as Star Wars Episode I: Racer is now headed to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Dropping in just a few weeks’ time, the game will feature characters including Anakin Skywalker, Sebulba, Ben Quadrinaros, Clegg Holdfast, Cy Yunga, Dud Bolt and more.

Vicari said: “It’s one of the bestselling racing games of all time. At some level that means something, but it’s not the thing that makes people talk about a game 20 years later. That’s an intangible.

“And with Racer, I think its legacy is a very specific feeling of joy. When we announced it within the company, it was crazy how many faces lit up. Once we had it up and running, people from every department kept dropping in to check it out. If you’ve played it, you know. There’s just something about being in one of the coolest scenes from a Star Wars movie.”

He added: “We want players speeding around the Grabvine Gateway on Baroonda to forget that they’re on their couch, holding controllers in their hand, and instead feel like they’re in their own racer, fighting against Sebulba and the rest for that finish line. And we want them to exclaim ‘Yoka to Bantha poodoo’ as they clear it.”

The latest edition of the game comes from developer Aspyr and Lucasfilm, and promises to deliver the original experience we all loved and miss.
