There are no new Stardew Valley updates currently in the works, as Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone says he’s focused on his next game project.
Eurogamer reported that during a Twitch stream for the first Stardew Valley Cup, the creator mentioned that he was more focused on future projects.
“I’m not saying there’s going to be another Stardew Valley update. I don’t even know at this point. Right now I am focused on my next game. So, we’ll see.“
Future updates for the popular farming sim are not the creator’s priority.
This is not the first time that creator Eric Barone has pushed back on the idea of future Stardew Valley updates. In September 2020, Barone stated that he wasn’t “willing to commit” to further updates following the release of 1.5.
Future Stardew Valley updates
Stardew Valley’s 1.5 update was released on PC just before Christmas 2020 and reached other platforms in February. The update added split-screen co-op, new farm layouts, characters, music and much more.
During the stream, Barone was asked about increasing the number of marriageable NPCs. He responded that it was “just a tonne of work” – noting that this would involve adding further dialogue, events and spouse rooms.
Barone stressed in September that he didn’t think the 1.5 update was the end for Stardew Valley.
“I would not be surprised if there’s another Stardew Valley update, or multiple updates, or a Stardew Valley 2. Who knows?”
New game in development
Fans will be disappointed about the lack of planned Stardew Valley updates. However, they have a new game from Barone to look forward to.
For now the creator is focused on his next mystery project. He went on to reveal that no-one knows what the new game is about yet.
“What I will say is it’s another pixel art game, a top-down perspective similar to Stardew Valley. And in some ways it is kind of similar to Stardew Valley, but it’s not a farming game. It’s something different.“
