Haunted Chocolatier, the next game from Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, will have relationships similar to Stardew, but done “differently.”
Last year, Barone blessed us with the knowledge that we would be receiving a followup to Stardew Valley. Haunted Chocolatier, put simply, is a game where you run a haunted chocolate making castle. It’s in the same graphical style as its predecessor, with some updates to combat.
But of course, the big question on everyone’s minds was: can we smooch any of the townspeople this time? Thankfully, Barone has confirmed that Haunted Chocolatier will feature relationships like in Stardew Valley.
In an interview with Vgkami, Barone briefly touched on relationships in Haunted Chocolatier. “Yes, there will be relationships like in Stardew Valley,” Barone said. “I haven’t decided exactly how the system will work, yet. And I expect to approach some things differently this time around.” Barone didn’t go on to specify what exactly might be different for Haunted Chocolatier.
Relationships were one of the popular aspects of Stardew Valley. As they made the town feel like a more fleshed out place, with real people inhabiting it. As well as that, there were numerous unique stories you could experience through the relationships you form. Hopefully Haunted Chocolatier will feature just as fleshed out relationships as Stardew Valley.
Perhaps there will be more complicated ways of forming relationships. As in Stardew Valley, the ways you increase your relationship levels are all quite simple. For the moment, we’ll just have to wait for every trickle of information that comes out.
