Steam Struggles To Cope With Massive Surge Of Lost Ark Players

Earlier this week Amazon’s next MMORPG, Lost Ark was released on Steam for players who bought the Founders Pack. However, its unexpected popularity has caused server issues.

As reported by PCGamer, Steam has quite simply been struggling to cope with the surge of players wanting to get a slice of Lost Ark’s free-to-play action. On Monday, Steam became strained simply by the number of players pre-downloading the MMORPG. Players were reporting issues of slow download times.

We are now seeing improvements in players being able to download and decrypt the game, and have confirmed this with the team at Valve.

This was all before gamers even got a chance to play Lost Ark. However, now that gamers have actually started to play the game, the Steam servers are struggling even more to cope with its popularity.

Players have also reported being stuck in infinite loading screens, something that the developers at Smilegate RPG are working to address.

The Kadan server will be restarted at approximately 9:20 AM PT on 2/9 to address the issue of players getting stuck in infinite loading screens.

Despite only launching this week, Lost Ark is already proving to be one of the most popular games on Steam, ever! At the time of writing, according to SteamDB, Lost Ark has a 24-hour peak of just under 507,000 players. Furthermore, its all-time peak currently sits at 532,476. And this is before the free-to-play period even begins.

In terms of current Steam charts, only PUBG, Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive have more players on Steam right now. Lost Ark also sits at 3^rd place in the charts for the highest 24-hour peak as well as being 6^th with the all-time peak. Just think, Lost Ark doesn’t even officially launch until tomorrow. Yikes!
