Super Smash Bros. Fans Aren’t Happy With New Nintendo Direct Reveal

Today (Jan 16) saw the first Nintendo Direct of 2020 but gamers haven’t been left impressed with the House of Mario. In typical style, the company gave us a teaser of what we could expect a few days before the show, meaning we all knew that a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate new fighter reveal was on the cards.

Naturally, the internet was hoping for Waluigi (and really, when isn’t the internet hoping for Waluigi?) thought Devil May Cry’s Dante was tipped to be the big reveal for Smash.

Seemingly out of nowhere, the Nintendo Direct didn’t reveal either of these characters, and instead announced the addition of yet more Fire Emblem fighters.

Gamers quickly flocked to social media to express their disappointment and anger in the best way possible: with memes.

One player joked that the Direct was less of a collab between Smash and Fire Emblem, but instead was Smash x. Disappointment.

A more sympathetic user tweeted of the Direct’s presenter and Smash creator, Masahiro Sakurai: “I feel really bad for Sakurai, he’s going off on all this Fire Emblem exposition and everything and I imagine the entire Smash Fandom just looks like this:”

These weren’t the only memes to come from disappointed Super Smash Bros. fans.

Now, before you dismiss the DLC entirely, there’s more than just two new characters coming in the next content drop.

11 new songs from Fire Emblem will be a part of the DLC, along with a new spirit board and a new stage: Garreg Mach Monastery.

Other content includes a series of costumes for your Mii fighter, including the one and only Cuphead, which actually is pretty sweet. Others include Rabbids, Megaman and Assassin’s Creed’s Altair. A Breath of the Wild special costume will also be available as part of the Fighters Pass Volume 2.

There’s also some new Amiibo to get excited for.

Personally, this wasn’t the most exciting Nintendo Direct, but it was far from the worst. What was your opinion?
