The 2015 Metroidvania caper Axiom Verge now has a sequel, and it’s available on Nintendo Switch right now. Let’s take a look at what Axiom Verge 2!
Revealed during Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase, Axiom Verge 2 is a natural continuation of the first game. However, according to the game’s blurb, you won’t have to catch up with the first game to play:
“Axiom Verge 2 is part of the same story as Axiom Verge 1 but is a completely new game: new characters, new powers, new enemies, and a new world. You can play it before or after the original,”
The sequel new website also gives us a short synopsis, which introduces us to the game’s new protagonist and premise:
“Meet Indra, the mysterious billionaire behind the worldwide Globe 3 conglomerate. What is this world she’s found? Who are the voices that seem to be calling to her?“
While Axiom Verge 2’s announcement was made during Nintendo’s showcase live stream, the sequel is also coming to PlayStation 4 and the Epic Game Store. According to the game’s website, a specific PS5 version is also expected to release at some point in the future.
Whether or not the game will eventually venture cross-platform remains to be seen. However, the first Axiom Verge did release on most major consoles of the time, so there’s still hope for Xbox fans and Steam players alike!
