The pre-order date for the upcoming System Shock remake is set to go live in late February, according to a recent Kickstarter update [via PCGamer].
It’s been four years since fans successfully chipped in £1.3 million to ensure the game’s return, but developer Nightdive Studios now seems to be one step closer to completion. The pre-orders are set to launch on Steam, GOG and the Epic Game Store, alongside a pre-release demo.
Nightdive made the announcement via a post on its Kickstarter page, making the following statement:
“PC pre-orders will open near the end of February on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Game Store. This will be accompanied by the release of our final demo which will include the medical level, cyberspace level, full dismemberment, all newly recorded voice lines, and a ton of additional features and polish.”
In addition to this, Nightdive also shed some light on its other project, System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition. Despite being a just a remaster, the studio seems to have overhauled the game more than originally intended:
“SS2:EE has evolved into more than what we were intending,” said the developer. “This will be a complete source port to our KEX engine. All the character and weapons models are being remade, and we’ve received permission from the Shock community to include many of the mods that have become standard for many Shock 2 veterans.”
It sounds like fans of the System Shock sequel are getting more than they originally bargained for.
Nightdive also announced that System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition will be free to those who have either preordered the System Shock Remake or backed the $30 and higher tier through Kickstarter.
This package is shaping up to be a great way to jump into the System Shock series for the first time. As for veteran players, both the reboot and the enhanced sequel seem to be filled to the brim with fan service.
