After months of negotiations and speculation, Kevin Hart has been officially announced as one of the stars of the upcoming Borderlands movie, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
As previous reports suggested, Kevin Hart will play the role of Roland, a highly trained former soldier of the Crimson Lance.

Though I have no doubts that Kevin Hart will play the role brilliantly with his signature style and humour as Roland, I’m still kinda disappointed that he’s not playing Claptrap.
The Borderlands movie will be directed by Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds & Cabin Fever), with Aaron Berg (G.I Joe: Ever Vigilant) and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl & The Last of Us TV series) writing.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin,” said Elli Roth in a statement. “Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland.”
Nathan Kahane, president at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group added: “Kevin has been behind some of the world’s biggest blockbusters, and our source material is inspired by one of the world’s best-selling video games.
“We love the way our filmmaking team has adapted this story, and we couldn’t be in better creative hands.” continued Kahane.

Kevin Hart will be joining the cast along with The Lord of the Rings and Thor: Ragnarok star Cate Blanchett who is expected to play the role of Lilith.
There is currently no release date or window for the Borderlands movie, but seeing as it’s in the early stages of production it’s likely to be a good few years away.
