The Callisto Protocol has been banned in Japan due to the developer’s reluctance to censor the glorious gore in the game.
Developed by Striking Distance Studios, The Callisto Protocol is from the minds of the original two Dead Space games, led by Glen Schofield. So, you know that this sci-fi horror is going to be packed with gore and over-the-top deaths.
The Callisto Protocol is considered a Dead Space spiritual successor
However, for some regions of the world, over-the-top gore in games might be too much. One such game is The Callisto Protocol, especially in the Land of the Rising Sun. Simply put, Striking Distance Studios is determined not to cut the game and potentially harm its integrity.
As reported by VGC, news of The Callisto Protocol being banned was announced on the game’s Japanese social media channels. “We have decided to discontinue the Japanese version of The Calisto Protocol,” read a tweet posted on Wednesday, October 26th.
It’s going to be a sci-fi gore-fest!
“We have determined that the game cannot pass the CERO rating in its current state and that changing the content will not provide the experience that players expect. We would appreciate your understanding in Japan.”
Furthermore, it was also announced that those who pre-ordered the game will rightfully receive refunds where required. Other than some exceptions, digital pre-orders take payment for a game instantly.
As far as we’re aware, the release of The Callisto Protocol hasn’t been censored in other regions where the game is set to launch.
When is The Callisto Protocol release date?
The Callisto Protocol will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One as well as Xbox Series X|S on December 2nd, 2022.
