The Last Of Us Part 2 Preorders Expected To Break Records, Despite Leaks

Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 suffered from some pretty bad leaks earlier this summer, but it looks as though the damage to the game’s pre-order sales are pretty minimal. In fact, the game is apparently on track to be one of Sony’s biggest games of the generation.

The news comes from PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, who told CNET [via Gamespot] that pre-order stats are tracking in at a record-breaking rate in Europe. Comparing the upcoming game to Marvel’s Spider-Man, TLOU Part 2 is apparently ahead in sales at a comparative point in the two games’ lifecycles.

This is particularly interesting, as Marvel’s Spider-Man slaughtered records for Sony, and is one of the biggest-selling games on the PS4.

Before launching in September 2018, Marvel’s Spider-Man had secured over a million pre-orders, going on to sell 3.3 million copies in just the first three days of its launch. If The Last of Us Part 2 is already surpassing Spidey’s pre-order numbers, who knows how many copies will sell post-launch.

Thankfully we don’t have too long to wait to find out, as The Last of Us Part 2 launches later this month.

The game’s official description reads as follows: “Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors.

“When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.”
