The Last of Us remake confirms fan theories

It seems that most fans had guessed that during the prologue chapter of The Last of Us, Joel might be around 30 years of age. Meaning by the time the game jumps forward 20 years, Joel could be 50 years old.

Well, it seems that most of the fan theories were correct and Joel is in fact 52 years old as confirmed in The Last of Us remake.

During the “Quarantine Zone” chapter taking place 20 years after the Cordyceps outbreak, Joel and Tess attempt to pass through a government checkpoint.

At this checkpoint, a military soldier looks the paperwork for Joel and Tess. At quick glance, it’s near impossible to read Joel’s documents before an explosion hits and chaos breaks loose.

However, thanks to the fantastic Photo Mode of The Last of Us: Part 1, Joel’s birth year has been officially identified. Yay!

This means that we know for sure that Joel was 20 when his daughter Sarah was born. He was 32 during the Cordyceps outbreak and he was 52 years old when he first met Ellie.

Sadly, we don’t know for sure how old Tess is. However, many fans have speculated that she could be around the late 30s to early 40s.
