The League of Legends show Arcane has just won an Emmy award for Outstanding Animated Program.
Arcane took the internet by storm last year when it came out on Netflix. The show followed a cast of characters from League of Legends, but for a show based on a game it far surpassed everyone’s expectations. It’s one of Netflix’s most popular shows, and one of the most high quality animated shows we’ve seen.
Now the show’s success has been recognised at the Emmys, where Arcane won an award for Outstanding Animated Program. It beat out competition from the likes of The Simpsons, Rick and Morty, Bob’s Burger’s and Marvel’s What If?
The Arcane twitter made a post celebrating the win. It said “Honored doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel about winning the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. Thank you to our incredible team at Riot Games and Fortiche, the Television Academy and the greatest fans (yes, you) for making this possible.”
Arcane Success
In his acceptance speech, Arcane co-creator Christian Linke said “It’s a big big deal for us as we come from video games. It’s been amazing to see the world embrace our characters and our stories.”
“So thanks to Netflix who believed in us from the beginning, thanks to Riot Games, who worked on the whole IP, and to all the people that have been with our game and League of Legends for the last 12 years or so who helped make it as big as it is now.”
Arcane follows the story of sisters Vi and Jinx as they struggle to survive in the underground city of Zaun. Above ground, the rich city of Piltover thrives, but new technological advancements lead to all manner of chaos.
A second season of Arcane was confirmed by the team, with a teaser hinting at the appearance of League of Legends character Warwick.
