The New Matrix Film Finally Has An Official Title, Out This Year

The much anticipated fourth Matrix film has finally been given a full title as well as a release date [via Deadline].

Almost 20 years after the release of The Matrix Revolutions, Keanu Reeves is back as Neo in the sci-fi action thriller. So far, we’ve only heard rumblings as to what this movie is about. Camera crews have been spotted all around San Francisco for the last year or so, but no trailer footage has been released into the wild just yet.

However, it seems like that might be about to change. Warner Bros. has apparently screened a trailer for the new Matrix movie at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Press now understand that the movie is called ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’, and will release in cinemas and on HBO Max on December 22nd 2021. That’s just in time for Christmas!

Who’s in this one?

Both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity. Also among the cast are Jada Pinkett Smith, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jonathan Groff. We don’t know if it will act as a prequel to the original trilogy or be a sequel. Considering the wobbly nature of the Matrix series, it seems like anything goes.

With the trailer being shown to press at CinemaCon, we’ll hopefully see a public release within the next few days. Warner Bros. doesn’t usually wait too long between screening trailers privately and releasing them publicly. After all, the film is set to release in less than four months. Given that we haven’t seen any footage of the movie yet, you’d have thought that the trailer would release sooner rather than later.
