New indie release The Space in Between is set to challenge your expectations of what a video game can be with its wonderful story about love, mental health and the night sky.
While many games focus on epic quests and huge battles, The Space in Between promises a more introspective and peaceful experience with a deep and touching story. Plus, we’re not going to say no to more representation in gaming!
The game introduces June and Miles as they bond over their complex and relatable issues. June is struggling with the relationship with her mother, while Miles is battling with mental illness in a “dating sim about Asian-American identity, mental health, and stargazing.”
“Our game follows the love story between June, a spunky Chinese-American college student trying to make sense of her complicated relationship with her immigrant mother, and Miles, a quiet artist who is recovering after a harsh past with mental illness,” says developer Emily Pitcher.
“Set on a scenic stargazing trip, the majority of our gameplay consists of connecting stars in the night sky, in which the player creates their own constellations. Depending on what constellation the player forms, a different personal story is told. Our visual novel is a vignette of modern relationships, a story that will leave you calling your close ones to tell them you love them.”
A heartwarming tale with a wonderful art style, The Space in Between is sure to impress, and best of all – it’s free to download and play!
As the game description says: “Look up, let go, and take a chance on the night sky.” The Space in Between is available now on Steam, and Itch.io.
