The Ultimate Shark Power Fantasy Is Back With The Maneater: Truth Quest DLC

The team at Tripwire Interactive is back to extend the adventures of the humble bull shark in Maneater: Truth Quest.

For those new to Maneater, it’s a game about causing as much uncontained havoc as possible as a ravenous bull shark. In this shARk-PG, your aim is to gobble your way up the food chain and become the most powerful shark the world has ever seen.

The more you eat, the bigger your shark gets. In turn, you can imbue your shark with upgrades to its internal organs and abilities. It all feeds into the circle of life as you cause chaos to wreak more chaos.

Truth Quest is a DLC pack that introduces an all-new environment, new prey to feast upon, new ways to evolve your shark, and additional objective types to guide you on your way.

Here’s a first look at everything you need to know about Maneater: Truth Quest.

What’s the story?

The story of Truth Quest picks up right where the base game left off. You play as the same shark as before, fully equipped with the evolutions that you imbued them with. Also returning is the investigative reporter that narrates the experience. Chris Parnell, who you might recognise as the iconic Jerry from Rick and Morty, reprises his role.

The story picks up as rumours begin to emerge surrounding the area of Port Clovis and the Naval Wildlife Organisation. There are tales of animals developing bone-like armour, emitting flesh-eating toxin clouds, and harnessing electricity to attack their prey. Though these are thought to be fairytales, conspiracy theories begin to point that something more sinister is at large.

As such, the Truth Quest DLC takes you to a brand new location off the coast of Port Clovis. It’s there that you’ll uncover the mystery surrounding the Naval Wildlife Organisation, which is heavily rumoured to be part of a government coverup.

What will you be doing?

It wouldn’t be a brand new area without new things to do in it. Fret not, as amongst the usual mix of thrashing and tearing, Truth Quest brings a couple of new objectives to the dinner table.

One of the new mission types is ‘Failure to Communicate’. These missions ask players to tail-whip objects in the environment with as much force as their shark can muster. Doing so will destroy specific objective targets and further your quest to become the ultimate man-eating machine.

Racing fans had better brush up on their swimming controls as there’s now additional Time Trial challenges to be completed. These will task players to manoeuvre their shark as quickly as possible through a series of set rings. The quicker time you manage, the greater the reward. These new side objectives serve as fun asides on your hunt for the truth.

What will you be fighting?

So what new enemies can you expect to face on the shores of this new island? Well, the rumoured goings-on have spawned some interesting wildlife that will serve as excellent chum for your humble shark. You’ll have to adapt your attack plans to take these new enemies down with the experiments granting them some weird and wonderful abilities.

As always, there’s always a bigger fish. Keep an eye out for the brand new ‘Uber’ Apex Predator. As the name suggests, this new boss is set to be bigger and badder than all the rest. We won’t spoil exactly what it is, but you’ll want to be readily prepared for when you do come face to face.

In addition to the new wildlife, there’s also a bunch of fresh faces in the Bounty Hunter system. The military land forces that occupy the new island are set to launch attacks from their fortifications, with Helicopters on standby to take the fight away from the shores. There’s an additional five new Bounty Bosses to take down, all of which are equipped with military-grade weapons and vehicles. Most importantly, there are all-new challenges and rewards to unlock after taking each of these down.

Any new progression?

To accommodate the extended gameplay, the maximum level cap has been increased from 30 all the way up to 40. In addition, there’s a brand new evolution set to fully kit out your shark with intriguing abilities. The new evolution is atomic themed, opening up all kinds of opportunities for new attacks. One even sees you let off an atomic blast!

To accompany the new evolution kit, there’s also new organ evolutions that provide passive buffs on your aquatic travels. An additional organ slot means that you can equip one more evolution, further powering your shark to its maximum potential.
