The Wii Shop Channel as well as the DSi shops have now been down for a number of days, meaning users are unable to redownload games they have previously purchased.
You might remember that back in 2019, the Wii Shop Channel was officially shut down. This meant that users could no longer buy any of the titles available on the Shop Channel. Everything they’d bought would still be available for download, though.
However, for the past few days, the Wii Shop Channel has been down. Meaning that anyone who might try to access it will not be able to download any of the titles they might have purchased.
GameXplain posted a video showing off the issue by heading to the Shop Channel through a Wii U. When GameXplain booted up the Shop Channel, they were met with a mostly blank screen. But after around a minute and a half, they were met with error code 209601.
According to the description for the error code, this is a connection issue typically on the user’s end. But the issue has been reported by users in Europe and Canada, meaning that the issue lies with Nintendo. According to Eurogamer, the DSi Shop Channel is also experiencing issues, coming up with the error code 290502.
But according to gbatemp, using the tool NUSDownloader, it’s clear that the issue is just on the frontend of the stores. And Nintendo’s online service status shows all servers are operating normally. It’s unclear if this is a purposeful decision from Nintendo that they haven’t announced. Or if there is something that’s gone wrong that they haven’t been able to fix.
Nintendo also recently announced the closure of the eShop for both the 3DS and the Wii U.
