The Witcher is now available to play in VR

The prologue of the first Witcher game is now playable entirely in VR for the first time, thanks to a fan mod.

If you’re tired of waiting for the updated version of Witcher 3 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, then why not try delving back into the first Witcher game, this time in VR!

Fan modder Patryk Loan has released a mod for the first Witcher game, allowing you to play through the entire prologue in VR.

“Every detail, every single prop was recovered, carefully transferred from the original game, remodelled and retextured, then placed where they exactly should be with detailed analysis and love”, Patryk Loan writes.

Dedicated fans of the Witcher games be impressed as all the cut-scenes were remade from scratch for this VR experience.

“…you have the ability to rotate your head everywhere at any time, so I added some extra lore-based content for almost every cutscene, and by that, I promise that even if you played the original game, the experience still would be new and refreshing.”

NEW COMBAT SYSTEM FOR A NEW EXPERIENCE

If that still doesn’t interest you, the combat of the first Witcher game is gone. Patryk replaced it with a simple system of taking out your sword and swinging it at enemies. And if that doesn’t work, you can throw Geralt’s sword directly at your enemies to inflict damage on them too. Vesemir would be proud!

Nude scenes are also intact in this VR Mod. As it’s the first game I can’t confirm if you can experience what it’s like to be in Geralt’s bathtub. That’s something you’ll have to see for yourself!

This VR mod is compatible with the following list of headsets:

  • HTC VIVE / PRO / COSMOS / COSMOS ELITE
  • VALVE INDEX
  • OCULUS RIFT DK2 / CV1 /  S
  • MIXED REALITY / WINDOWS / ASUS / LENOVO EXPLORER
  • OCULUS QUEST WITH OCULUS LINK

You’ll also need a copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. Which is available from online marketplaces such as GOG and Steam.

Now go out and experience what it’s like to be everyone’s favourite grey-haired monster slayer.
