The countdown to the next series of The Witcher has begun. To get us in the mood, Netflix has dropped two new clips and a trailer!
Let’s start with the main event – the new trailer for season two of The Witcher. It’s been cut to recap the previous season, with tiny flashes of what to expect in season two.
It appears that Geralt and Ciri are heading to Kaer Morhen, an old Witcher fortress where those from the School of the Wolf were trained. This makes sense – it’s Geralt’s school, and it’s hard to reach, making it a good place to hide Ciri. I’m not gonna lie – I’m excited to meet all the other witchers we see in the trailer…
We also see some hints about returning favourite side characters. The description gives us a hint of the theme for the season: “You can’t escape the monster within.”
In the Nivellen clip, we see The Witcher interacting with another cursed man. Nivellen is played by Kristofer Hivju, from Game of Thrones, and his voice acting is great in the scene. It’s a bit exposition heavy, for me. But for those who haven’t played the games or watched the excellent ‘Nightmare of the Wolf’, perhaps it’s a welcome bit of background.
In Geralt & Ciri, we get a glimpse of what it’s like for Geralt’s world of monsters to crash into Ciri’s. Our two main characters spent the first season desperately searching for each other, so it’s going to be interesting to see how they interact. Can the showrunners keep up the momentum?
The Witcher: Blood Origin
We also get a behind the scenes tour with Declan De Barra for The Witcher: Blood Origin. De Barra has worked on Iron Fist and The Originals, as well as writing an episode for season 1 of The Witcher. Now he’s working on a whole prequel series, which should be out next year.
We’re loving his cheeky, surreal tour and the guest appearance of a rubber eel.
The second season of The Witcher will premiere on 17 December. ‘If you’re looking to scratch your monster-hunting itch between now and then, why not play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? We’ve got some discounts on it in our online store.
