The Witcher Showrunner Weighs In On Mark Hamill Playing Vesemir

Star Wars veteran Mark Hamill has expressed quite a bit of interest in joining the cast of Netflix’s The Witcher (despite not knowing what the show is about). When the news emerged, fans of the new series (and the books and games) jumped at the idea of Hamill as Vesemir, the mentor of protagonist Geralt of Rivia.

Now The Witcher showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich, has commented on the possibility of Hamill actually joining the cast for the show’s second season.

Speaking to IGN, Hissrich explained that she’s a “huge Star Wars fan” and that Mark Hamill would be “of interest to me and interest to the project”.

She explained her reaction when she learned of Hamill’s comment about the role, saying: “It was one of those first Witcher moments for me where I was like, ‘oh my God, is this even possible? That Mark Hamill knows what this is and would be interested in doing that?”

The Witcher’s second season is planned to have a 2021 release, and pre-production has not yet started. Perhaps somewhat predictably, this means that Hamill hasn’t been formally contacted regarding the role just yet.

Hissrich told the publication: “[We’re] not casting the role quite yet…that being said, I am loving what’s happening on the internet. And I’m loving all of the fan reaction to it. Obviously, we’ve seen what a huge fanbase The Witcher has, and to add that to a Star Wars fanbase… it makes my mind explode a little bit.”

Back in 2018, Hamill was quoted as saying of The Witcher character, Vesemir: “I have no idea what this is or what it’s about but agree it could/should be played by me.”

As the quote once again made the rounds recently, IGN reported on the news, to which Hamill again expressed an interest in the role.

On Twitter, Hamill shared the original IGN article, adding: “I still have no idea what this is or what it’s about, but I DO know they haven’t ever asked me to play Vesemir… yet.”

There’s still time!
