Sorry. It’s a long time to wait.
2019 is undeniably the year for Marvel fans as it brings with the it release of Avengers: Endgame. Endgame isn’t just one of the most-anticipated movies of the year, but it’s also one of the most highly-anticipated movies of all time, and Avengers fans just can’t wait any longer.
Unfortunately, there’s still a few weeks before Avengers: Endgame hits the cinemas, but at least it’s not as long a wait as X-Men fans apparently have on their hands.
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios top dog, recently spoke to io9 about the post-Endgame plans, and it looks like it’s bad news for X-Men supporters.
When asked when the gang of mutant superheroes might be appearing alongside our Avengers favourites, Feige stated: “Not for a while…
“It’s all just beginning and the five-year plan that we’ve been working on, we were working on before any of [the Fox merger] was set. So really, it’s much more, for us, less about specifics of when and where [the X-Men will appear] right now.”
Reading between the lines here, we’re not getting any of the X-Men in the MCU until the studio’s five-year plan is done. Sigh.
Although lots of people are pretty p*ssed at the news, others were pleased with the development, saying they’re willing to wait as long as it takes for the MCU to get the X-Men right. Being brutally honest, the current roster of X-Men have started to feel a little tired since their introduction in First Class.
X-Men: Apocalypse was hardly an Oscar-worthy movie and things aren’t looking much better for Dark Phoenix. Well, there’s plenty of time for Feige to decide what he’s going to do next.
What we can probably expect in the next few years is the continuation of the story after the events of Endgame. Considering it’s been 20+ films in the making, there’s going to be a lot of fallout, a lot of character development and a lot of reasons for Marvel to keep making movies after its release.
Avengers: Endgame releases in cinemas worldwide 25 April 2019.
