It is reported that the Xbox Series S has been outselling the Series X in key markets across the world. Impressive!
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, it is claimed that the Xbox Series S and Series X are pretty much on par at 50/50 in terms of install base in a majority of key global territories. It is also said the Xbox Series consoles have sold around 6.7 million units worldwide. In comparison, the PlayStation 5 has shifted 12.8 million units worldwide.
By now we all know that getting hold of a new-gen console is still no easy task, despite the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S releasing a year ago. Yet it seems that supply is still struggling to meet demand with no immediate improvement in sight.
When you look online, you’d be incredibly lucky to find a retailer that has either a PS5 or Xbox Series X in stock. However, the chances are that you will likely find a retailer with the digital-only Xbox Series S ready to ship on order.
Digital sales have been on the rise
As a result of the Xbox Series S selling rather well, digital video game sales have been on the rise. Take, for example, Call of Duty: Vanguard. In the article from GamesIndustry.biz, it is said that according to GSD data, 90% of the Call of Duty: Vanguard sales on Xbox were digital downloads.
It will be interesting to see that when the Series X eventually becomes more readily available, how those digital sales might compare to physical media. Though I wouldn’t rely on Xbox Series X or PS5 stock improving at least until next year (hopefully).
