A Twitter account called These Spyro Worlds Do Not Exist is posting AI generated PS1 Spyro environments, and they are beautiful.
Something we can all easily agree on is that the environments of the original PS1 Spyro games are beautiful. They’re incredibly colourful, with gorgeous deep purple skyboxes, it was a palette you didn’t see in many other games. But unfortunately, there are only so many Spyro games that came out on the PS1. Thankfully though, there’s a new Twitter account in town that just posts AI generated images of Spyro worlds.
Introducing itself on Twitter, the account wrote “Hello everyone! Do you know those dreams where you play non-existent Spyro games and wished they were real? Well, now you can get a glimpse of them! Get lost in the familiar whimsical aesthetics of PS1 Spyro games of the worlds that don’t exist, from the sequels that never were..” The account explains that it aims to post at least “one generated collage a day.” And further down the line, the account might focus on only one game, or specific worlds. Very kindly, the account also says that anyone is welcome to “use these generated worlds however you like.“
It’s hard not to look at the small selection of images available and think, ‘wait, this isn’t actually from a Spyro game?’ There’s even one tweet that just generated a selection of skyboxes, and we could stare at them all day. While these images might not be real, they at least let us imagine a world where there are more PS1 Spyro games than there are.
