Last month was just the beginning of it all, a preparation for our wallets to take one hell of a beating, which can only mean one thing! To the everyday person, this is a mere, normal September month, to us gamers, it’s known as Broketober! Sure our wallets, bank and PayPal accounts will undergo severe abuse, but on the plus side, it’s the start of some fantastic videogame releases as we lead into Christmas. We’ve got big hitting Triple A titles, big expansions and indie darlings! We’ve even got a big release for PS3 and Xbox 360!
So with that said; let’s take a look at what we’ve got to look forward to this September aka Broketober. Please keep in mind that release dates can often change at any time and they can differ depending on the region.
Destiny 2: Forsaken – Expansion (PC, PS4 and Xbox One) – September 4th
It’s not been smoothest of rides for Destiny 2 since it launched last year. However, with the release of its forthcoming big expansion Forsaken, Bungie and Activision hopes that this will not only bring new fans with the Legendary Collection (which includes the base game and previous DLC), but also existing fans or those that may have strayed away. Forsaken will bring what is said to be the biggest endgame experience in the series with The Dreaming City, as well as a new Raid lair, a new story campaign, multiplayer maps and modes, and much more. Oh, and we’ll also have to prepare for the loss of arguably the series’ most beloved character.
Marvel’s Spider-Man (PS4) – September 7th
We’ve seen it so often over the years, games that are so overhyped, that they’re just destined to fail. However, one game that many of us believe will live up to its hype is PS4 exclusive, Marvel’s Spider-Man developed by Insomniac Games. If you’ve seen any previous gameplay videos, you would know how gorgeous this game looks and the web-slinging across Manhattan, New York, looks like it will be the most satisfying in the franchise yet. On top of that, the combat we’ve seen with Spidey battling it out against some of the members of the Sinister Six, looks awesome! 2004’s Spider-Man 2 is widely considered to be the best Spider-Man game yet, but could this Septembers release take that crown? Only time will tell.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PC, PS4 and Xbox One) – September 14th
Set two years after the events of Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft’s fight with the paramilitary group known as Trinity continues, this time in Mesoamerica and South America as she aims to stop the apocalypse that she had started! Developed by Eidos Montreal in conjunction with Crystal Dynamics, this is expected to be the last of this series following the fantastic 2013 reboot. Shadow of the Tomb Raider promises to have the largest semi-open world in the series, with more action, exploring than ever before, and hopefully a lot of tomb raiding also. Will this story allow Lara to finally end her troubles with Trinity? We’ll find out from September 14th.
Life is Strange 2 – Episode 1 (PC, PS4 and Xbox One) – September 27th
To follow on from the critically acclaimed first season, Life is Strange 2 has some very big shoes to follow. In the first season, this episodic graphic novel adventure that touched upon some very challenging subjects included mental illness and suicide. Life is Strange 2 now follows the story of two young brothers, Sean (16) and Daniel Diaz (9) who following a death of a police officer at the hands of a supernatural event; find themselves on the run, leaving their home of Puerto Lobos, Mexico to Seattle, USA. The first episode drops later this month, and if you haven’t played The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit (which is free by the way), you’re actions from the episode, will carry over into Life is Strange 2.
FIFA 19 (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch) – September 28th
It’s another year and it’s another FIFA instalment, and as with every year, expect to see FIFA riding high up in the sales charts leading up to Christmas and beyond. Each year the FIFA series tweaks its refined gameplay and FIFA 19 will surely be no exception. However, with this year’s games comes some new additions, such as the UEFA Champions League and EUROPA League license, poached from Konami rivals Pro Evolution Soccer. We will also get an intriguing Survival mode which will see opposing teams losing players with every goal scored until its 90-minutue conclusion and we’ll be getting the finale to Alex Hunter’s Journey campaign.
Well, that concludes my highlights for this September, below you’ll find the best of the rest. Don’t forget to let us know what you’re looking forward to this month across our social media channels.
