Resident Evil: Code Veronica is a game that definitely deserves just as much love as the mainline games in the RE canon. Despite fans’ attempts to cajole Capcom into remaking the 2000 classic, it seems the pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Thankfully, two gamers are attempting to right that wrong, by making their own Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake.
As noted by TheGamer, developers and RE fans Briins Croft and Matt Croft are attempting to revive Code Veronica from the dead, by remaking the entire game within Unity.
The ambitious project will aim to include two game modes: a remake mode in fluid third-person, and a classic mode with fixed camera angles.
From what we’ve seen so far, this definitely looks like a true love letter to the original game. Being built from the ground up, we’re actually getting an incredible glimpse into how a 2021 Code Veronica could really look. The team promises “improved cinematics,” “brand new gameplay,” “extended scenarios,” and more.
Naturally the project has been met with much excitement from gamers, and it’s hoped that Capcom will allow the fan project to go ahead. However, if Capcom has plans to remake Resident Evil: Code Veronica itself, this might be a short-lived fan game.
