The PS5’s backwards compatibility capabilities have become a big talking point over the last few weeks but Ubisoft may finally have let slip some of the finer details.
According to a now-deleted section of Ubisoft’s FAQs, the PS5 won’t be backwards compatible with the original PlayStation, PS2, or PS3 – which realistically, doesn’t come as too much of a surprise.
Sony had never actually promised that the new console would cater for anything older than the PS4, but that hasn’t stopped rumours (and wishful thinking) doing the rounds for quite some time.
(None of this is shocking at all, yet it’s nice to have somewhat official confirmation considering there are still people pushing the idea/rumor that PS1/2/3 BC is coming)

In fairness, Ubisoft’s swift removal of the section will do nothing to stem the rumours of further backwards compatibility but realistically, it’s more likely that Sony will already have an official announcement prepared and is waiting for that to make any kind of confirmation.
There is however a chance that any announcement may now be brought forward.
Sony senior VP of platform planning and management Hideaki Nishino looked to ease any worries back in March, insisting that the next generation console will have ample capabilities that will continue to grow over time: “We’re excited to confirm that the backwards compatibility features are working well. We recently took a look at the top 100 PS4 titles as ranked by play time, and we’re expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PS5. With more than 4000 games published on PS4, we will continue the testing process and expand backwards compatibility coverage over time.”
