Aardman Animations, creators of Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, are apparently working on a “mad, open world” game.
Initially spotted by TechRadar, a recent job listing from Aardman has revealed that they are developing an open-world game. The listing is looking for a Level/ Narrative designer, and is looking for someone to join at “the beginning of pre-production.” So it sounds like it’s still very early days yet.
It also notes that they are “working on an incredible, brand-new IP with a major publisher.” So we’re not likely to see Wallace or Gromit this time around.
The game will also apparently be a 3D action-adventure game, and they are looking to push “into new design space” within that genre. And it will have a big focus on “inventive mechanics and compelling characters imbued with the humour, love and craftsmanship you’d expect from Aardman.”
The listing also makes a note that the game will be released for PC and console. Considering it sounds like the game isn’t even in pre-production yet, it will likely be for PS5/Xbox Series only.
This isn’t the first video game outing from Aardman. In 2018, the studio released a game titled 11-11: Memories Retold, a narrative game set during the first world war. It was codeveloped with DigixArt and published by Bandai Namco.
So it is possible that this new open world game will also be published by them. It will probably be a while until we get an official reveal. So for now we can only speculate what it might be like.
