CD Projekt Red has admitted it’s considering a similar approach to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for its upcoming RPG, Cyberpunk 2077.
The Witcher 3 kept the fun coming with a shocking number of DLCs and expansion packs which have helped to keep people playing through the adventures of Geralt many years after the base game first launched.
Add-ons like Blood and Wine are actually the size of a game in their own rights.
In an interview with Prima Games, Cyberpunk‘s UI coordinator Alvin Liu said: “We are talking about expansions in the future.
“We want to make sure everything’s complete, but we also want to build open worlds,
“I know when I was playing The Witcher 3 and I finished everything, I still want to know what everyone was up to. I think we’re going to have opportunities like that as well for Cyberpunk 2077.”
Liu made it clear that any upcoming expansions or DLC aren’t coming at a sacrifice to the core experience.
“We’re not withholding content, we’re not withholding story for the future to try to, you know, monetize it or sell it in pieces or anything like that,” he said. “You’re going to get the whole, full value game here.”
It’s been confirmed by the company that – just like The Witcher 3 – Cyberpunk 2077 will indeed have multiple endings.
CD Projekt Red gave The Witcher 3 a mammoth 36 different ending cinematics, and with Cyberpunk following in its steps in many ways, it’s hard to imagine it coming out with anything less than The Witcher.
During E3 2019 CD Projekt Red finally gave us a release date for Cyberpunk 2077, which is set to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, April 16, 2020.
CD Projekt Red describes the game as follows: “An open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification.
“You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you.”
