Deadpool is coming back, as the film’s co-writer Paul Wernick has confirmed a new movie is in the works.
Speaking to Den of Geek, Paul said: “We’re just waiting for the word from on high.

“There’s a lot to be sorted out, like how Deadpool fits into the Marvel Universe with the other characters of the MCU.
“Then it’s, do the X-Men get in there at some point? Fantastic Four? There’s a lot to be sorted out and I think we’re all getting a much needed rest from Deadpool – Ryan and us and everybody.”
Ryan Reynolds has also teased BIG news about the character’s upcoming involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Disney’s recent acquisition of Fox was great news for properties like the Fantastic Four, it looks like it’s the end of days for the X-Men and their various spin-offs.
Following the box office bonfire that was X-Men: Dark Phoenix, it’s almost certain we won’t be seeing Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, and Michael Fassbender back as Charles Xavier and his gifted youngsters. Elsewhere, planned movies for X-Force, Multiple Man, and Kitty Pryde have all been given the boot. Rising from the ashes like the Phoenix Force, Deadpool is a soul survivor of the massacre.
The box office juggernaut that was Deadpool 2 surely helped the Merc with a Mouth and spared Deadpool’s demise. Disney bosses have confirmed the foul-mouthed anti-hero will be joining the House of Mouse, which has raised a few eyebrows given Disney’s family-friendly mantra.

Although there’s been no news on Deadpool 3 or when Reynolds will join the MCU, the man himself has hinted at an imminent announcement. Posting on Twitter, Reynolds confirmed he’s had a meeting at Marvel Studios HQ, but couldn’t help making a joke.
Auditioned for the role of “Anthony Stark”. Didn’t come even remotely close, but the nice man with the taser escorted me to the ground.
The famously funny star told his 14.7 million followers, “Auditioned for the role of “Anthony Stark”. Didn’t come even remotely close, but the nice man with the taser escorted me to the ground.:
He is obviously joking that he didn’t land the legendary part previously held by Robert Downey Jr., however, let’s look a little deeper at what’s going on. Reynolds is famously close to the Deadpool movies, served as a producer on both, and helped write Deadpool 2.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has promised that Deadpool will main integral to the Fox acquisition, which makes a lot of sense considering the franchise’s credentials. Considering Deadpool 2grossed $785 million worldwide (topping 2016’s original by just $2), it’s a safe bet that a third movie will follow in its footsteps.
Director David Leitch has said he’s heard nothing off Disney about Deadpool 3 and is eagerly awaiting ‘the call’ about where the story goes next. Even though we’re all assuming Reynolds’ meeting relates to Deadpool 3 news, there are a number of other possibilities.

Kevin Feige has already outlined his impressive slate for Phase 4, and it’s easy to imagine Deadpool popping up in a comedy movie like Thor: Love and Thunder or Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Finally, there’s a whole host of Disney+ TV shows that are just crying out for a cameo from Reynolds’ X-rated mercenary.
Some already think Multiverse of Madness and the involvement of Scarlet Witch could be the perfect way to bring the X-Men into the MCU. Deadpool is known for breaking the fourth wall, so I can’t think of a better way to bring him back to our screens. Either way, we haven’t seen the last of Reynolds and those rippling abs.
