Last week Microsoft showcased the Xbox 20/20 presentation, in which the company promised a slew of game reveals along with a first look at gameplay from its upcoming next-gen console, the Xbox Series X. However, the event left a bitter taste in the mouths of many viewers – especially over that gameplay reveal.

The Xbox team promised to share the world’s first look at next-gen gameplay for the recently-revealed Assassin’s Creed game, Valhalla. However, what was shown during the event left viewers more than a little confused. The gameplay appeared to be nothing more than a cinematic trailer, albeit one with the word “gameplay” stamped in the title.
Viewers flocked to social media to complain about the event, and Xbox has now responded.

Responding to criticism of the showcase, Xbox top dog Aaron Greenberg tweeted the following:
“Had we not said anything & just shown May Inside Xbox show like we did last month, I suspect reactions might have been different. Clearly we set some wrong expectations & that’s on us. We appreciate all the feedback & can assure you we will take it all in & learn as a team.”
The event revealed a number of exciting new games coming to Xbox Series X, including the likes of Bright Memory Infinite, Call of the Sea, Chorus and DiRT 5.
Due to the global pandemic, it’s likely that more and more games will be doing their online reveals in drips, as opposed to big events dedicated to reveals, like E3. Xbox has already revealed plans to showcase new games in events similar to last week’s, (though with viewer feedback now being taken on board).
