An announcement looks like it could on the way for fans of the Mafia franchise, as the game’s long-dormant Twitter account is suddenly active once more. The official account for Mafia, known as @MafiaGame, has just tweeted for the first time since 2018. The message simply reads “Family,” but it’s enough to get fans frothing at the mouth over a potential announcement.
Whether or not the tweet is the prelude to an announcement is unclear (it was Mother’s Day in the US yesterday, which could be what the tweet is referring to), but if you ask me, this is definitely something to keep an eye on.
As for what the Mafia team could be up to, a parent from 2019 suggests we might be looking at a remaster of Mafia 2.

Last year, Take Two Interactive registered for a handful of trademarks associated with the Mafia brand, which we speculated could mean a next-gen revival was on the cards.
Two of the trademark applications are in relation to the word “Mafia,” and used text-based logos. Along with these two applications came a trademark specifically for Mafia 2, suggesting we might be expecting a remake or remaster of the classic title.
Only time will tell with this one, but keep your ears to the ground for some Mafia news!
It seems that reviving dead Twitter accounts might just be the best way to reveal your game in 2020. Just last month we saw the same move from Crytek, where the company revived the Crysis Twitter after three years of silence. The tweet, which simply read “RECEIVING DATA,” turned out to be a precursor to the reveal of Crysis Remastered.
Could we be seeing the same move from 2K Games with the Mafia series? Here’s hoping for either a brand-new game, or a remaster of Mafia 2!
