Xbox Series X Is ‘Experiencing Performance Issues,’ Admits Microsoft

Microsoft has admitted that the Xbox Series X is having performance issues for certain games when compared to Sony’s PS5.

When a new generation of consoles launches, those who adopt the new systems expect a certain level of quality whether it is performance, visuals or anything else in-between.

When comparing the PS5 and Xbox Series X, it’s pretty much give or take as to which is better, as both consoles definitely pack a punch. Or at least they should do, but Microsoft has admitted the Series X isn’t always performing as it should for its games.

On paper, in terms of GPU power, it should be the Xbox Series X that has the advantage, however that’s not always appearing to be the case.

The Xbox Series X is capable of 12 teraflops of GPU compared to the 10.28 teraflops of the PS5. While this might not be considered a huge difference, it may at least sway potential customers one way or another.

In theory if you’re playing a multiformat title such as Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, it should look and perform slightly better on Xbox Series X than on the PlayStation 5.

However, despite the apparent GPU advantage, video games such as Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla are reportedly performing better on PlayStation 5, as discovered by Digital Foundry in the video below.

This performance discrepancy has become such an issue for some Xbox gamers that Microsoft has commented on the matter.

We are aware of performance issues in a handful of optimized titles on Xbox Series X|S and are actively working with our partners to identify and resolve the issues,” explained an Xbox spokesperson [via TheGamer].

It seems that Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is not the only game with an issue when comparing performances of Xbox Series X to PS5. Digital Foundry has also discovered that both Devil May Cry 5 has a better forming framerate on PS5, while Dirt 5 also has better image quality and resolution.

It’s not clear how – or when – the issue will be resolved.
