The official soundtrack of Battlefield 2042 is now available on streaming services, a whole month ahead of the game’s release date.
Battlefield 2042 is fast approaching and it’s safe to say that we’re more than a little excited. Even though we’re yet to play the game in any sort of beta, early snippets of gameplay look extremely promising. Complete with the Battlefield Portal community mode, 2042 certainly has a lot going for it when it runs alongside Call of Duty: Vanguard this year.
It’s just over a month until the game releases, but the hype train has more than certainly left the station. If you’re looking for a smidgeon of new Battlefield content to sink your teeth into, then you’re in luck. You can now listen to the Battlefield 2042 official soundtrack on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon Music, and Deezer.
The OST will be seeing a full release in the coming months, but DICE has decided to publish it online a little early. There’s 14 tracks in total making for a runtime of just over 43 minutes. Some of the tracks share similar names to the multiplayer maps of Battlefield 2042, indicating that they could be the loading screen music for those locations. ‘Oribtal’ and ‘Hourglass’ are two tracks named directly after multiplayer maps. Other tracks like ‘Shipping Forecast’ could relate to Manifest, which is a map set in a dock filled with shipping containers.
Dun dun dun dun dun dun!
The album is composed by music producing veteran Hildur Guðnadóttir and Sam Slater. You might recognise Guðnadóttir for her most recent work on the soundtrack to Todd Phillips’ recent Joker movie. The soundscape of Battlefield 2042 sounds oddly familiar, in that sense. There’s lots of use of sharp, scratchy sounding strings and plenty of reverb on vast horns. Fans of Battlefield 3 and 4 will be pleased to hear the return of subtle synths and evoke that classic modern Battlefield feeling.
Of course, the Battlefield soundtrack wouldn’t be complete without an official theme, and the 2042 OST delivers. The final track is simply titled ‘Battlefield 2042’ and features the classic Battlefield theme melody. Arranged into an epic modern fashion, it’s more than worthy of entering your gym or gaming playlist.
Battlefield 2042 is set to officially release on October 22nd, though a week of early access is available on October 15th for those who pre-order higher tier editions. It’s set to be a multiplayer only title with a lengthy post-launch content roadmap.
