The PlayStation 5 is still shrouded in mystery at this point in time. We know it’s expected in 2020, we know it’s going to be seriously powerful, and we know it’s not going to be cheap.
When it comes to the specifics though we’re still in the dark, although that hasn’t stopped one retailer from already putting the console up for pre-order.

Yes, you can now pre-order a PS5 from European retailer Media Markt in Sweden [via GamesRadar], but it isn’t going to be cheap.
‘Early purchases’ of the upcoming console will set you back a mere 9,999 Swedish krona – which is about $1032 USD or £853 GBP. Although that looks like a placeholder price for now, GamesRadar notes that the Media Markt website will go through the purchasing process, and will “presumably complete your order for that sum.” Yikes.

If that’s the case, it’s likely that people who do pre-order for that crazy expensive price will end up with a refund for the difference on their hands when the console is officially announced.
Or at least, I hope they do…
Earlier this year Mark Cerny, PS5 architect, confirmed in an interview with WIRED that the new console has an AMD manufactured chip, and is based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line, with 8 cores of the new 7nm Zen 2 micro-architecture.

The GPU is a custom Radeon Navi solution and will support ray tracing for the most realistic experience.
However great the hardware might be, I’m definitely more excited for the games that Sony (hopefully) has in the pipeline.
A sequel to 2018’s God of War is expected to be releasing on the PS5 in the coming years, whereas players of other PS4 exclusives like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Death Stranding and The Last of Us are eagerly awaiting news on how these franchises will carry over.
Get ready for the next generation!
